Football

Blaine varsity football came up just short of upsetting undefeated Lakewood on Friday, October 13.

The Borderites had a chance to score a winning touchdown from the 10-yard line in the fourth quarter, but Lakewood stopped them a yard short on the fourth down. Blaine lost 32-30.

Blaine head coach Jay Dodd said he’s proud the team is still playing so hard without a win.

“Our kids just want to keep getting better and keep putting the best foot forward,” Dodd said.

Julian Gonzalez, Chase Abshere, Dalton Mouw and Cruz Rodriguez scored touchdowns.

Volleyball

In the last week, Blaine girls varsity volleyball beat Meridian 3-1 and lost to Lynden Christian 3-0. The team has an 8-3 record overall.

They play next at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 19 at Burlington-Edison (9-1).

The Blaine boys cross country team finished fourth out of seven teams and the girls finished fourth out of six at the Lake Lap Invitational in Bellingham on Thursday, October 12.
